Airdrie Physicians: Talk to your doctor about vaccines

Article content

Dear Editor,

We understand the debate around vaccines in Airdrie has become more polarized.

We understand many in our community are getting vaccinated but many people have questions about the vaccine.  We hear concerns about safety, effectiveness and side effects.  The global COVID pandemic has been difficult on all of us.  As front-line health care workers we have been in the unfortunate position to care for many patients who have succumbed to this now preventable disease.

As the local health experts and with decades of medical experience evaluating new treatments and practicing evidence-based medicine we would encourage the people of Airdrie to speak to their family doctors about the vaccine.

Making informed evidence based well researched decisions is why a patient has a family doctor.  The same way we evaluate high blood pressure treatment, tetanus immunization and a host of other interventions we will review with an individual patient the risks and benefits of a vaccine and then our patients can make an informed decision with the best data possible from an unbiased and trusted source.
