This was the fourth Skate Mania this year and it took place Aug. 26 and it was once again popular. Skate Mania has been going in High River for 9 years now.

Families were also in attendance cheering the skaters and riders on.

Janelle Kennedy, who is the Community Development Coach for the Town of High River was all smiles seeing all the kids using the park.

“This is great,” she said.

“These kids are so talented.”

On behalf of the Town of High River Kennedy thanked Fortis for their contributions to the streetlights that were installed at the skate park in 2019. They weren’t able to thank Fortis publicly earlier, because of COVID.

“We are really appreciative of our relationship with Fortis and appreciate all the work they are doing for us in the community,” said Kennedy.

“The addition of the streetlights, especially during the spring and fall months provides the kids an opportunity to be outdoors and be physically active.”

“The ability for them to just prolong their day is really quite incredible, because they are taking full advantage of the beautiful weather and they are out here at the skate park day in and day out.”

Kennedy encourages kids that do anything on wheels to come out and check out the park.

“We just want kids to belong and they have somewhere to try out something that interests them,” she said.

“Skate Mania is led by our youth, and it’s for our youth and it was great to see the incredible turnout.”

Prizes, such as skateboards were given out to random participants who took part in Skate Mania as well.
