The High River Little Britches Committee made the tough decision to cancel this year’s Little Britches Parade due to the ongoing pandemic.

“After lengthy discussions with Alberta Health Services, and concern for the health and well-being of spectators, it is with a great deal of sadness that we are announcing the cancellation of the 2021 High River Little Britches Parade,” said Chair, High River Little Britches Parade Committee – Hank Leeferink.

It isn’t all bad news, however as the committee is going to bring High River a porch parade visiting neighbourhoods in the community, similar to what was done with this past Santa Parade. Some of the floats, fire trucks, RCMP and other surprise floats will be seen around High River starting May 21 and will continue May 22 and May 23, all starting at 5 p.m.

“Grab your lawn chairs and your favorite beverage so you can enjoy the parade as it passes by,” said Leeferink.

“We have a virtual parade planned as well as a colouring contest and so much more, so stay tuned for more information. Also, check our Facebook Page, and the Town Website for further details. Parade routes and so much more will be revealed in mid-April.”

It was a very tough decision to make for the Little Britches Committee, but safety was the number one factor when they made their decision.

There were numerous concerns, firstly being social distancing.

“How do you put people on the parade route and have them respect distancing and masking?” said Leeferink.

Another concern was having horses out on the route.

“Horses haven’t seen crowds in over a year so how were they going to react?” said Leeferink.

“The decisions was gut-wrenching to make, but it was one we had to make.”

“We look forward to seeing you all next year. Thank you for understanding.”
