St. John’s was their tenth one.

They became interested in running when Ann was looking after her father who was dealing with Parkinson’s disease.

“Visiting my dad at the hospital, we realized that we weren’t in a hurry to get there and decided that running and doing half-marathons would help us stay healthy,” said Ann.

“It was also a good idea, because it was something that we (Ann and Ron) could do together, to motivate one another and just be close to each other.”

“We also added to our goal to complete these half-marathons in every province, because we have never seen anything outside of Alberta and Saskatchewan.”

They began to train running five times a week for 16 weeks for a a total of 503 km of training then the 21.1 km half-marathon run.

Now that they have become half-marathon experts and have completed their goal of running a half-marathon in ten different provinces, the couple has reflected on what some of their favourite places were on their journey.

“Any of the ones we did running along the ocean were pretty spectacular,” said Ron.

“Nova Scotia and maybe Prince Edward Island were the highlights.”

“The Ottawa marathon was also great,” said Ann.

“There were around 11,000 people running in the half-marathon and a lot of spectators cheering everyone on.”

At first they ran a race and sometimes finished separately but things changed.

“It became less of a race and more of an event and being together and enjoying the scenery and talking to some runners when we were running and things like that,” said Ann.

The couple would finish the latter half-marathons together and would hold hands crossing the finish line.

“Ron could have finished much quicker, but he wanted us to finish together,” said Ann.

Even though they have crossed off their goal on their bucket list, they still are not done with half-marathons and are planning to run in the territories.

Ann read a quote of on a sign that he has and believes it applies to herself and Ron.

“Every once in a while in the middle of an ordinary life, love brings you a fairy tale,” she said.

“I feel that’s what we’ve lived through doing this together.”
