June 3 to 9 has been named senior’s week throughout Alberta since 1986, and an array of events will be hosted throughout High River to honour its older citizens.

Kicking off the week, the High River recreation department will be hosting free “Keep It Moving,” classes on June 3 and 7 at the Charles Clark Memorial Center for seniors who are looking to keep active and have fun.

On the 4th, the FCSS department will be joining Mayor Emile Blokland at the Friendship Seniors Center for coffee and cake from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Come by for a treat and a chat with the mayor.

A similar event will be held on June 5 but will take place at Medicine Tree Manor; this is a private event where invitees will get the chance to meet the mayor at 11 a.m.

Finishing off the week, the FCSS office (located in the Charles Clark Memorial Center) will host another coffee and cake event on June 6.

Seniors who attend will have the chance to enter to win door prizes sponsored by Colossi’s, The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, MD of Foothills FCSS, and the FCSS’s from the town of High River.

Town of High River staff offered a special message ahead of the start of seniors week.

“The Town is pleased to honour local seniors and celebrate the richness they bring to our community,” the message states. “Th¬ey are a wealth of life experience and are a valuable resource to High River. Be sure to do something special for the seniors in your life.”
